As I walk through the eerie, mist-filled woods, I feel at home. The dead, shriveled up leaves crunching under my feet, the mist enveloping me to the point where I can’t see three feet in front of me, the impossibly tall trees stretching to the heavens. Somehow, it all just feels right, it makes me feel…happy. What makes it better is my dog, Smile. He may be better known from his pictures on the internet, as the infamous Smile.jpg. His companionship, his loyalty, his overall demeanor just makes it immeasurably better. I sense him. Smile’s voice erupts in the back of my head. Oh, I forgot to mention, Smile can speak. But, only to me, and only in my head (sounds crazy, but it’s true). “I know, I feel it too. He’ll be here any second now.” As if on cue, He appears in front of me, Slenderman himself. He stands 10 feet tall, and is impeccably dressed in a black suit and black tie. He doesn’t speak (which is normal, considering he has no face), yet, He makes me feel welcome in his territory (he “rules” over the forest I take walks in, the one I now stand in). “We are not all here, there is one more.” I say in a calm voice. An ordinary man would have quaked in his boots at the sight of such a tall, faceless man, yet I stood there calmly, no fear at all. “We must get The Rake before the night begins.” (and I don’t mean the common gardening utensil found in your backyard shed). Slenderman, of course, says nothing, but nods. I could see the forest begin to shift, warp, distort. For a brief instant, fear took hold of me. Then, I remembered that this was merely Slenderman teleporting us to a new location. Before long, I could see that the ground was changing into a metal grating of sorts, concrete walls materialized, and a solid metal ceiling barred view of the stars. We had teleported to the tunnels that ran underneath the city. This is where The Rake resided. We stood in almost complete darkness. The only light source was a small, flickering fire, visible in the distance. Without a second thought, I started walking towards the light. At the end of the tunnel lived an entity (I can’t really call him a man…) who I hadn’t seen in nearly six years, since the last Blood Night. Standing over the fire, was The Rake.
The Rake had no defining features, really, Just skin, bone, and a little muscle. “How very nice to see you again, my friend.” I said, holding out my hand. As he raises his right hand to shake mine, I remembered the three foot-long metal claws extending out from his knuckles. I quickly pulled my hand back, and he just grinned at me. “That would have been bad…” he said, still grinning. So, what’s our plan of action? Smile asked me. “Well, not too far from here, there sits a cabin, filled with high-schoolers currently on a fun, innocent camping trip.” The Rake chuckles, and says, “High-schoolers. They never learn do they?” I laughed then Smile said to me, Wait, how many kids are in the cabin? I reply with, “Six, so after these we’ll only need seven more.” The Rake then says, “Slenderman, would you mind giving us a teleport?” He nods and for the second time, the environment distorts for a minute, then stops, and in front of us stood the cabin.
I quietly walked up to a window at the front and peered in, being careful not to let them see me. Looking into the window, I noticed there were more than six. Suddenly, a bloodcurdling scream tore through the night, and made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. It was coming from inside the cabin, which most likely meant our kills were being stolen. “What on earth is going on in there?” The Rake asks, slightly shocked. “I really have no idea.” I replied, a note of unease in my voice.
The lights in the cabin suddenly went out, then more screams, male and female, could be heard crystal clear. Then, as quickly as it had started, it ceased. There was silence once again. Footsteps could be heard coming to the front door, immediately to my right. I quickly took a few steps back. What are you afraid of, Jeff? Smile asked in a slightly amused tone. You are a bloodthirsty killer allied with a vicious dog, a 10 foot tall teleporting terror, and a featureless monster. Although I share your unease, we must face these entities with no fear. I nodded my head, then withdrew my knife from my pocket. “You’re right, I need to have no fear.” But, staring at the door, waiting for it to open and reveal the horrors within, I couldn’t help feel more than one pang of terror. But then, the door opened, and out walked 7 children, dressed in Japanese kimonos, blood spattered all over them.
“What the hell?!” I couldn’t help exclaiming. These were just kids, how could they have ruthlessly murdered 6 other people? Then, logic kicked in and said, “You know, these probably aren’t normal children…” However, I couldn’t help but say, “You guys are just kids! Even if you weren’t, you took the souls of 6 kids! Souls that should be in our possession, just by the way!” I managed to stop myself and breathe for a minute. I saw each child get a look of puzzlement, or confusion on their faces. They each began conversing to each other in what I assumed what was Japanese. Hold on, I’ve heard of these children before…These are the results of an immortality experiment performed by the Nazis back in WW2. I believe they were collectively dubbed, “Kagome Kagome”, after a game they would play. Smile said all of this with an air of I-know-what-I’m-talking-about. I slowly nodded, then said, “Well, whoever they are, they’ve interrupted our Blood Night, and for that, they must pay. Smile, take ‘em down.” I could see him hesitate, then hurl himself at the kids. 145 pounds of dog landed on the smallest child, and Smile ripped the kid’s arm off, then attempted to go for his throat. However, before Smile could perform the finishing blow, the largest kid picked Smile up and threw him against a tree. Smile yelped, then fell silent as he lost consciousness. The 6 kids then circled Smile and began to beat and, eventually, almost completely eviscerate Smile (shocking, I know.) I screamed, “Smile, NO!” I gripped my knife and started running towards the kids, but The Rake held me back. I struggled, but it was no use. Slenderman teleported us away, and we ended up back where The Rake lived.
“How could you just teleport us away?!?!” I yelled into the darkness. “HE WAS MY ONLY FRIEND, AND YOU JUST LEFT HIM TO DIE AT THE HANDS OF THOSE SICK, MUTATED CHILDREN?!? HOW COULD YOU!?!” I leaned against the wall and sank down to the ground in defeat, then clutched my face in my hands and sobbed. I hadn’t cried that hard in years. “We couldn’t have done anything to save him! You saw the results of direct confrontation with your own eyes! They would have killed you too, if we hadn’t held you back. Unfortunately, now that they’ve had a proper blood feast, they will be virtually unstoppable.” I looked up at The Rake and, behind him, Slenderman. “Even so, they were just kids!! We probably could have taken them!” The Rake sighed and said, “No. See, they are just like us, supernatural killers with superhuman strength and probably amazing agility and stamina. Plus, now that they’ve had their fill of blood, they really will be unstoppable. We need to wait until the effects of the blood wear off, then we can go hunting.” I was slowly calming down, but I was still filled with rage as I said, “How long do we have to wait before I can kill every one of those bastard children, and then harvest not only their souls, but the ones that were rightfully ours?” The Rake thought about it for a moment, and then said, “We have to wait until the next blood night so, 6 years.” I was dumbstruck. “6…years…” I whispered to myself. Finally, I stood, and said in a malicious voice, “Fine, I’ll wait. But when the time comes, there will be blood…and lots of it.”
