My story starts on October 4th, 1997. My distant relatives invited us to spend the weekend in their trailer in Lexington, Kentucky. I wasn’t looking forward to this, but my Mother insisted I go. We left as soon as we were all ready. The drive was painful, constantly stopping for Toilet breaks and snacks. As we were reaching the Trailer park, I noticed something odd standing at the side of the road. It was neither a human nor Animal, it seemed like a mixture of both. I admit, it scared me a little but I thought nothing of it.

When we reached the Trailer, I died a little inside. It was disgusting! Trash lay sprinkled on the ground and Rats and Mice scurried everywhere. There was a dirty swamp in the park and it sent a shiver down my spine. We were greeted by My aunt Lauren and her husband Bill. They had a 12 year old Son named James, although I remembered him being older. I was escorted to where I was staying and lay my bags on the old, hard bed. My Mother, Father and Brother would all be staying in the same room.

Later that evening, we ate a dinner of greasy fried chicken and lumpy mashed potatoes. I washed the dry food down with a glass of milk. I excused myself from the table and went to my room to change. As I threw on a pair of sweatpants and a tank top, I heard a noise, that of a child crying.. I freaked out and ran to the kitchen were the family were discussing life in Kentucky. I sat and waited for everyone to finish and we all went to bed. The crying stopped. We all fell asleep, tired from the long drive.

I woke at 2:09am, hearing the same crying noise. I was petrified. The cry grew louder and it sounded like it was coming from outside. I peeked out the window and what I saw still haunts me to this day. The same ‘creature’ I saw on the road, digging up my Aunts lawn. What it dug out was horrifying. The limp body of a boy around 6 years old. The creature looked at me and carried the body away. The sight was that of a horror story, but it was mesmerizing and I couldn’t look away. When the creature had disappeared into the night, I shook my Father awake and had told him what occurred, he told me I had imagined it and to go to sleep. I didn’t sleep a wink that night, the creatures face haunting me whenever I closed my eyes.

In the early morning, I found my Aunt in the kitchen and told her what happened. Her look of happiness turned to that of sorrow. She told me the story of how her first son Joe died by drowning in the bayou out front. I asked her about the creature but she didn’t have an explanation. I asked her why Joe was buried outside the Trailer, but she didn’t know. She didn’t remember them finding his body in the bayou. She abruptly ended the conversation and ordered me not to tell anyone of our talk. I promised her, I wouldn’t tell… But I still have one question….

  1. I found this story more creepy than funny. It think has more potential if you gave it a proper ending instead of a “THEN WHO WAS _____” ending. Though I must admit, I sent in a few of those myself XD. Good luck with your stories!
